Marshaé Sylvester, MA, PhD

Psychotherapist

Marshaé A. Sylvester (she/they)

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here.

As a Black, queer therapist, I am committed to creating a therapeutic space where you can bring your full, authentic self. My work is rooted in deep respect for the complexity of living at the intersections of multiple identities, and in the belief that therapy can be a space for transformation, healing, and self-discovery. I work collaboratively, centering your lived experience and fostering a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, care, and attuned support. Together, we will co-create a space where you can process, heal, and find support as you navigate life’s challenges  whether that includes identity exploration, relational struggles, emotional overwhelm, or difficult transitions. I strive to hold a space where all parts of you are welcomed and met with compassion.

My approach to therapy is grounded in systems thinking and psychodynamic theory, with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care. I integrate parts work and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients better understand the complexities of their inner world, especially in the context of childhood neglect, systems and complex trauma.  I also draw from somatic practices, supporting clients in reconnecting with the wisdom of their bodies and moving stress and trauma through and out of the nervous system. I believe our bodies hold not only our personal stories, but also the intergenerational and ancestral experiences that shape us  and that healing must include both mind and body.

I have particular expertise in working with queer, non-binary, and BIPOC individuals, and bring a deeply affirming lens to issues related to race, class, gender, ability, and neurodivergence. I support clients with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and identity development, and I specialized in working with ADHD across the lifespan, including adolescents, adults, and those exploring or receiving a late-in-life diagnosis. I work affirmatively polyamorous relationships, blended families, interfaith or mixed religious backgrounds, and the evolving dynamics of relationships. For clients who are drawn to spiritual integration, I offer space to explore that connection in a grounded, nonjudgmental way. Whether you're revisiting long-held beliefs or stepping into a new spiritual path, I honor your process and support you in weaving spirituality into your therapeutic journey if and when it feels meaningful to you.

When we work together, you can expect a supportive, attuned, and collaborative process. My intention is to help you uncover unconscious patterns, make sense of your story, and build sustainable practices that support your healing. With my clinical and academic training at the intersection of mind, body, and spirit, I aim to offer care that honors your full humanity.
